For the past four summers, I've spent occasional weekends doing volunteer work with the Continental Divide Trail Alliance. This group is responsible for building and maintaining the Continental Divide Trail, which at its completion, will stretch for some 3100 miles from the Canadian border in Montana to the Mexican border in New Mexico.

This summer, for a variety of reasons, I haven't been able to get out and help this group as much as I'd like. However, this past weekend, I did get out to work on a section of the CDT near Loch Lomond in central Colorado. This particular location is about 30 miles to the west of Denver, near the town of Idaho Springs.

The weather on Saturday was typical of Colorado for this time of year. Very nice in the morning, and very stormy in the afternoon, giving way to intermittent showers. I got hailed on, which wasn't particularly fun, but it was a soft hail. On Sunday morning, I woke up to ice on the outside of my tent. But on Sunday, it was a very nice, sunny day. Of course, working above treeline (11600 feet in elevation), I got a nice sunburn, even though I had a good deal of sunscreen on. :-p

Anyway...onto the pictures!

Since I have 32 or so to post this time around, I thought I'd make it easier and just link to my photobucket gallery. The full-sized images (not the thumbs) here are scaled down by 1/4 from the original size. If you'd like a copy of a larger image, feel free to request a specific size. I can accomodate up to 3000x2000.

Beautiful photos! I hope to make a trip out there one day. I have been to CO but it was just flying into Denver (OMG that place is flat and barren!) and driving to Moab, Utah. That was a nice trip, and I highly recommend Arches National Park and the surrounding parks.

The Denver airport is out on the plains to the east of the city. It's not too far from the mountains, though.

I've been to Moab once, and rode my bicycle through Arches NP. It is indeed very nice out there. I should probably go back at some point. Especially since I can get there in about 8 hours of driving.

I was supposed to go up to do some CDT work in Montana this fall, but I've had to back out of that trip, unfortunately. Maybe next year.

This one is AWESOME! I love wildflowers.

A wee favour.. could I post up the link to it in a topic in another forum?

The poem I wrote called "Her Garden" is about an internet friend of mine who passed away last year, and to memorialise her, those of us who knew her on my other forum started a virtual garden with pictures of flowers and trees, which she had always loved while she lived. It's a beautiful photo, as are all of them.

Flynn it appears I'm living in the wrong area, man is that some beautiful countryside there. Nothing like mountains, rolling hills, and miles upon miles of rock. It's gorgeous.
