Tales of the Elves
Of the fall of Galei’Ven

And so the shadow wrought the woods
Till flames of darkness quench the trees
And happiness was no more
- Of Aelbereth, Passage IV

In the dark forests of the far north, far in the reaches of time when the Elves and Centaurs ruled the lands, and the men have not yet come, there came a time of darkness and despair. For the foolish wizard Aelbereth of the long forgotten woods of Galei’Ven had been taken by darkness.
In those times there was one who was known as Druun’Vespe, or the Dark Wolf. He had come to the forest of Galei’Ven as a shadow, for none knew of where he came, and none knew what he was. For this Druun’Vespe appeared only as a dark blur, flittering in the depths of the forest. He ensnared the powerful and well-respected wizard Aelbereth with his promises of dark power and riches: things that had never bothered the Elves before. For the elves took what they needed from the forest, and nothing more. Never had any of the forest-folk any need of treasure or gold. But alas mighty Aelbereth was somehow enamored with the promise of these dark treasures. And thus did the great Aelbereth fall, and a dark kingdom lay to root in the golden woods of Galei’Ven.
The council of elders took notice of this evil, but none wanted to have to fight. They feared the worst, for if it had been so easy for the shadow of Druun’Vespe to corrupt the forest’s greatest wizard, the dark shadow must be powerful, and in long years had the power of the elves waned. For Galei’Ven had no army, for in the recent past it had needed now army; for had the realms been at peace for centuries.
But one brave elven warrior feared not the darkness of the Dark Wolf, and he gathered up the few brave ones who would stand against the intrusion of shadow. The elf was the son of the council chieftain, a ranger known as Lareil’Nur Of these loyal warriors, was one Taer’ael of the Emerald Leaf, a wizard of great might and former apprentice to the fallen sorcerer, Aelbereth.
Thus did the elves finally strike out at the demon that was Druun’Vespe, and the battle for the northern woods began. The might of the shadow was strong however, and it was long years before Lareil’Nur’s band finally reached the nub of the gloom: the ruins of Nekrel’Ven.

If thats true, then why do we read books with more words than pictures as we get older?
