Pumice paste is one of my favorite quick basing materials. Mine is made by Vallejo, but I'm pretty sure Woodland Scenics makes some, as do Golden and LiquiTex.
It's made from a powder of pumice stone and a moldable adhesive gel, so it's pretty much a sandy goo. For an idea of texture, take a look at my paint of Privateer Press' Paldin of the Wall, the base is nothing but a thin layer of pumice paste, basecoated in RMS walnut brown and drybrushed up through a series of greens.
The base can also be built up into little ripples and hills, so you can get a lot of texture with it. If you have rockpiles, it's great for filling in gaps as "dirt," and it also makes a really nice "moss" texture, too. Love the stuff!
