After seeing Lars Porsenna mention Warhammer Ancient coming out with a WWI version, I was thrilled.
And sure enough, GW mentions it:
http://www.warhammer...al.com/news.asp
I'm assuming GW might come out with some figures for it, but if they don't, anyone know of a good line of figures. 6mm/10mm/15mm scales.
Come to think of it, I don't ever recall seeing 28mm WWI figures.
Thanks

No way GW is going to make figures for it; there were a few promo figures they did for WAB, but that was it...
Also the "default" scale is going to be 28mm. As the rules appear to be based on WH40K, the scale of the game will be similar.
There's a bit of a WW1 renaissance going on, with a number of manufacturers, such as OG, Briade Games, Renegade minis, Greatwar. Even a Grippinbeast spinoff is threatening ANZACs for a bit of Gallipoli/Palestine action...
Damon, wouldn't mind a Turkish army...

28mm? Really? That'll be cool. I can use my Tannhauser figures then. As for the rules, well, I like Warhammer Ancient and Epic but not 40k so much. Eh, I'll wait and see.
Know of any good 28mm WWI figures?
WWI will be the next big flavor I guess.

Almost undoubtedly not going to be a direct port. WHWW1 will have as much of a relation to WH40K as WAB has to WHFB.

WWII will always be there for history buffs, but WWI hasn't really been touched as much.

GW doesn't release figures for it's historical games as there are already a number of manufacturers out there.
Damon hit on pretty much most fo the major vendors for WWI figures.
I'm partial to the Brigade WWI figures, personally
Magister Militum just announced they have photographs for their 10mm WWI (think slightly bigger than epic scale)
http://www.magisterm...PageHistory=cat
I think the more modern historical games are closer to the LotR rule sets, but I may be mistaken. Personally I think the LotR rules, with a bit of tweaking are perfect for more modern skirmish games.
WWI is awesome for gaming - one of my favorite set of rules - "Trench Wars" is WWI. I thought it would be dull, but actually I find games, particularly those set in the early war in Africa are really fast moving and intense. (You can grab Trench Wars from Brigade as well). I usually try to get a game of it in when I go to conventions.
Also, Gnome Wars is very much a WWI game played with fantasy-esque lawn gnomes representing the armies. :D

One of the blogs I follow regularly has been doing some WW1 in the last few months. Take a peek at:
http://grimsbywargam...t-war-game.html
There are other posts on the blog about WW1 stuff as well with some good references on the left (at the bottom).
They use 28mm stuff and platoon/company level and a *free* rules set. I've been looking at Iron Ivan games' rules lately and them are tempting me to get into the period. Another era that Iron Ivan does that has attracted a lot of attention in Austin is the Spanish Civil War with the rules Primera Battala (the link isbelow.)
http://www.ironivang...rtermaster.html
You can check out the Force of Arms miniatures at the Great Hall Games site:
http://www.greathall...ilWar/index.htm
They are nicely done and you can play anything from the Abraham Lincoln Brigade to anarchists to communists to socialists!

I kinda think WWI is the new hotness, and will be the new WWII. ;)
Al we need are a few good films featuring WWI and there will be an explosion in gaming.
