Are we so blind that we cannot see?
Has the singer eternally lost his key?
Is the king so pompous he will chain the free?
Then, the grace we once hoped will cease to be.
Half-truths become self evident.
We'll not care how our lives are spent.
Weal and woe lose their earthly bent,
And we'll shiv hope just to pay the rent.
Solace is burnt in effigy.
Justice becomes a hollow tree.
Truth is sold in lots, you see.
Honesty ends in tragedy.
Greatness clouds vision.
Progress stops time.
Knowledge leads to revision.
Ignorance grows with time.
We're all @#!&ed, sad to say,
No redemption, no price we'll not pay,
Until humankind's dying day,
We'll walk blinded, unaware we're prey.
The biggots'll kill us, the haters of those
Who aren't just like them, and who suppose
That they who are different are who to blame
For what they themselves should cry in shame.
Fanatics will doom us, causes they'll claim
And all but themselves they'll try to blame
For all that is bad, and never suppose
That they themselves have oftentimes chose
A path to destruction, a road to ruin
That everyone here has smelled a brewin'
Some call it fate, and some bad luck,
But I say that it's all the same truck.
And whether you're left or whether you're right,
Or if you sit down or stand up and fight,
We're all in the same boat, that's goddamn right,
And only we ourselves can change our plight.
So stop all the ruckus about who is right,
And put together our considerable might,
To change things, but not out of fright,
Of what may come, but out of wisdom,
To deliver us from darkness and into the light.

It's danm good..to which I credit your self-proclaimed lack of knowledge about poetry.

There were a few places where I stumbled over the metre, and a couple abrupt changes in pace between stanzas, but it certainly is evocative.
