Ok, so we've been playing that Elves treat Light woods as Heavy woods. But it dawned on me that this isn't quite correct, Elves treat Light woods as Heavy Cover not Heavy woods for the purposes of cover bonus'.
We had thought it was particularly deadly because Elves could be in light woods, stay between 1" and 2" and be able to fire out and not be seen. But this isn't correct is it? They could still be seen, since they treat Light woods as Heavy cover not Heavy woods, they would simply get the +2 rather than +1 cover bonus, correct?

Yep; Elves in light woods have lines of sight just like anyone else in light woods.
When it comes to cover, don't worry so much about where it comes from for Elves; if they get cover at all they get +2 across the board.
