Airbrushers, what kind of results have you gotten with Bones?

It works great if you don't thin the paint too much or spray them with dullcote or primer first.

I did a durability test on different prep methods for Bones. The minis were tossed in a box and shaken and heavily handled through two conventions. The one 'primed' with Dullcote fared the worst, it has extensive chipping.

I'm thinking of getting into airbrushing too, especially for some of those dragons and the big models.

It's a load of fun. The airbrush does have a steep learning curve though, but one you figure it out, it's awesome.

One thing that helps me is that you can practice with water on the same piece of cardboard over and over. (Just let it dry between times) Then I'll use a mix with water, acrylic ink and acrylic medium on cheap paper occasionally to compare things I've learned. I've only only used it to base coat warjacks and SDE monsters with zenithal lighting effects, but it is a lot of fun!

I picked up a Iwata Neo at Hobby Lobby with a 50% coupon and a compressor with fittings inluding water trap at a local home improvement store for around $100. The compressor is a little loud, but the tank is large enough that it doesn't run often. When finances improve, I may look for a better airbrush now that I'm getting comfortable. (Darn Kickstarter!)

::sigh::

With 300+ Bones coming, I've got to get my regulator fixed.

Even if you only use the airbrush for your base coat, it'll increase your efficiency/decrease your time per model greatly. If you have an army to paint quickly, there's really no other way to go.

They used the Purple Worm Bones mini at the Airbrush class at ReaperCon this year. Airbrushing a unprimered Bones mini worked magically! My worm was in a bag I carried around for the rest of the convention, threw in my trunk, and then threw in the minis box when I got home. No chipping and no damage at all.
