Oh, gems are easy. I used this tutorial the first time I tried it (http://www.necrotale..._gemstonesf.php), but now I just blend light at bottom to dark at top, plus a spot of white in the darkest area.

Did you try liquide green stuff on the rod?
If so, how did it work out?

I love the way you've coloured the boots and trousers.

She's all done now. Mistwalker, I used some liquid green stuff on the bottom orb of the staff, with mixed results. I had to be so careful not to mess up the surrounding paint job, and I just couldn't get it to smooth out the way I'd like. It's probably an improvement from before, though.

I added freehand to the gloves and the bottom of the jacket on the back. I also finished the base painting and glued on some static grass. When it dries, I'll paint that, then take final photos.

The figure itself is finished and varnished.

Glad my suggestion was of some help, and not the cause of cursing.

She looks great. I too envy your gem painting skills (well, skills in general :;): )

mixing complementary colors to forms neutrals is actually a wonderful exercise when you're learning color theory. My color theory prof made us mix up each possible gray/neutral combo from each complementary set and paint and entire work with it. you actually get slightly diff results with each one, so it gives you a good sense of how each behaves. probably useless on minis unless you want to do a shadowy/night scene, but you never know.

I love the colors here. Fantastic detail!
(sorry- missed the finished mini post-wow!!!)

oh, you mean I can put stuff here?  cool!  now to think of something...
