anyone know the process of dyeing birch catkins for miniature basing?

i want purple ones, iv tried a multitude of ways and to no avail.
alcohol based dyes, water activated dyes with soda ash, stains ect.

there has to be a step im missing....
my guess is that they are naturally waxy and somehow you have to remove the wax before dyeing, though boiling doesn't seem to be the trick.

also if there is a trick to separating the catkin from the seeds

Let me know pls and ty

I'm not sure I understand... is this what you're looking for?
