Just a quick question for all those excellent painters out there :)

If I use a was on a miniautre that I have painted with metallic paints will it ruin the look of the metallic paint?

Excellent? Nope. But I have used heaps of washes on metallics and never had a problem. As they say, test first.

I find that washed enhance the look of metallic paint because it dulls the shine a bit. This will also improve the contrast when you highlight your metallic areas.

Back in the day, everything got a wash! Whether it's a straight black wash over chainmail or a blue/black wash over plate mail, washing is a really great thing for metallics. If you look at this old gnoll I painted last year, it's done in my traditional base/wash/drybrush style for armor. Putting on the silver highlights really gave it a nice shine while the wash gave it depth. The pics don't do it justice (it's very shiny and metallic to the eye) and I'm certainly not saying it's a great paint job!

Also, I'm definitely not in the excellent painter category :)
