I normally use Krylon matte varnish (spray) to seal my minis. However on my latest project, I decided to add a waterfall effect to the base after I mounted the mini to the base. I'm not sure if the spray on sealer will agree with the realistic water I've added.

My question is this: is the Reaper brush-on sealer supposed to be thinned before applying it, or do I use it straight from the bottle? I've thinned down the brush-on primer... but this is a different situation!

Yes, you can use Reaper brush-on sealer straight out of the bottle. Once it's dry it is completely invisible.

A matte sealer on a water effect probably won't look good. My advise would be to seal everything but the water effects. If you must seal the water effects, use a satin or gloss sealer.

Like mike said: I'd go for gloss sealer or no sealer at all on the water.

Does anyone know if Liquitex Matte Varnish works well as a brush-on sealer for miniatures?

Works just fine, though it seems to have a little less matting agent as the Lascaux that I normally use. Still get a decent finish, and if I worked with thinner coats, I'd be able to get more matte with a bit more effort.

I do normally push both through an airbrush.

Anne has said in the past that Reaper brush-on sealer should be slightly thinned with water for the most matte effect.

That also applies with the Liquitex and Lascaux.
