Are conversions normally patched up with green stuff? Are there any alternatives if say, you don't want to buy that much green stuff?

It depends. With things like weapon swaps you might get away without any filling. But anything else? Yes, some filling or re-sculpting will be involved.

Like Serenity says, Green stuff remains slightly flexible after curing. Its also more elastic and adhesive than most putties when uncured, so it's the best for when you want to apply very small amounts at a time. I tend to use Milliput for anything structural, because it sets like concrete, and can be carved, sanded, sawn, drilled or filed afterwards. You can even do fun stuff like making your own weapon blades by roughly modelling the milliput around a wire core, then carving and filing them down to profile when they're cured.

Hmm, interesting. I haven't played with miniatures before and this kickstarter will be the first time I do. Not sure about sculpting things, but I definitely know how to fill out gaps with stuff, so this should be interesting. I'll go look up more of this stuff. Thanks.

-Road Warrior is going to get a new head and gun as I already have the metal version

-The flaming sword paladin will have his sword shaved back to a standard sword

-The Zombie Hunter state trooper will have his arms modified to be holding at least one pistol as I will end up with two of that figure.

Lastly, I'm going to try and replicate this conversion with the added detail of changing his left hand with a knife.


I'm not sure which pistol to use. I have the plastic necromunda pistol that was used in the conversion, but there are alot of other pistols and SMG's that would look great. Maybe even put a rifle leaning against the leg in the left hand too.

That's pretty much it. Though I'll likely do a few conversions when I see the figs in person, I don't currently own any of the bones fantasy figs in metal already and -unusually for me- I like how they look as-is.

I already have all 6 of the IMEF troopers based and painted up, so I plan to use the IMEF troopers for conversions.

* IMEF Sarah Blitzer: Replace the sniper rifle with Nick Stone's rifle. Replace the spare clip on her back with a backpack. Use some putty to give her some chest armor. Possibly remove head and turn it 45-90 degrees for slightly different look. Paint up as a medic or other team specialist.

Just a quick note. The sniper rifle is just an extended version of the standard rifle with a scope and a few other mods. It could probably be cut back to original rifle size if you need another one.

Oh, I wouldn't want to waste a perfectly good over-sized gun, when I could let someone else carry it. :D I might modify it slightly, though, so that it is visibly distinct from the "sniper gun" in some way, but can still pass for a heavy rifle. I was thinking about converting another 77009 Werewolf to hold it (with a bit more cutting, wiring, positioning, and putty), since I liked the way my "IMEF DuChamps" conversion turned out.

Still, it does make me wish there was a sprue with just "IMEF" weapons on it (rather than just one IMEF rifle out of the whole Futuristic Weapons pack), as that could be handy for "IMEF-izing" a few other Chronoscope minis as additional support specialists, officers, etc., and driving home the idea that they coexist in the same shared universe. (E.g., picking up "Ishio, Anime Heroine," painting her so she looks more like she's in a serious uniform rather than a character from Sucker Punch, and giving her an IMEF rifle, so she can represent an officer of some sort.)

The Sniper rifle is so huge that I have a hard time seeing it on any standard sized human fig (another werewolf could be cool though) looks pretty rediculous on Sarah IMHO. Personally, I think it would be a great pintle-mounted machine gun on a vehicle, maybe with the magazine moved to the side. There's many sci-fi model vehicles that would look great with IMEF figs and the rifle would be a great way of bringing the vehicle and figs into the same universe.

Also, I looked up the conversion you refer to and it's quite nice!

That's a GREAT idea! I've been focused on trying to put together a drop-ship to work with the IMEF, but it would also be nice to have some sort of futuristic APC or Hummer-equivalent to ferry them into adventures. By having a pintle-mounted weapon that's visually similar to their rifles in style, that would help to provide a visual link to tie vehicle and figures together. I suppose I just need to find a suitable vehicle.

I've been keeping an eye on the Avengers "Stark Tech" vehicles in the local toy stores, hoping for some sort of sale, as a possibility.

For instance, there's the Stark Tech Goliath, which I think could be converted into an APC fairly easily, since even though it's intended for 3.5" tall action figures, there's no easily-identifiable cockpit. I'd just need to use some plasticard, etc., to build a rear compartment and boarding hatch, but some discs over the wheels (so they're not so obviously hollow), repaint everything, and consider some weapon swaps.



For aerial transportation, I was thinking of getting the Avengers Quinjet. It, again, is meant for 3.5" action figures, but, being a toy, it's grossly out of scale for those figures anyway.


It actually has a drop hatch in the back that, in the movie, would have been a boarding ramp for troops in the back, though this toy just has a seat for a SINGLE character back there. I'm aiming for a model, not a play-set, so I could perhaps take the toy and gut the seating interiors, either going the cheap route and making it so you *just can't see* what's inside, or else going the extra mile and installing some seats within the cockpit area (showing that it can seat more than just one person at 32mm scale), and putting some benches and equipment racks in the rear hatch area.


Of course, at this point, I'm not really talking about Bones conversions, as I am talking about conversions to unrelated toys that I'm thinking of making to use WITH my Bones models. ;) Sorry!

If it is a cost issue to buy a lot of green stuff, this where I get it. Its called kneadatite and is used by various trades. Same as green stuff though. $12 for a three foot roll is about the best price I think you will find.

I've been watching the same vehicles. At full price they're not much less than really nice models like those by Atenociti's. On sale though....

I've currently got 3 of these "next to" my workbench. (not my picture or figures)
They have a downward cockpit access under the front front that I hope to convert into a boarding ramp.

So far, the only conversions I'm planning are on "Juliette, Wizard" and the UL Kickstarter Sophie (which isn't a Bones, but whatever)...
(In any event, the convo on the UL Sophie isn't really of a suitable nature to discuss on this forum - suffice it to say there's a reason it's the UL version, ahem.)

Juliette, however, is getting the lower half of her skirt trimmed off and then extended into a more proper ankle-length robe with the split up the center of the front and no cleavage-window, having the rolled tops of her boots cut off and raised to mid-calf-level, losing the scroll tube in her hand for a staff, getting a more proper-looking corset and losing the stuff hanging from her belt, and finally getting a head transplant from the vampire whose furniture is in the Dungeon Dressing set from the kickstarter. So, I'm basically resculpting the whole damn thing, lol. She's intended to be an interpretation of a warlock character of mine.

There may or may not be a couple of the others "converted" into bitz.

I've been assembling a couple hordes armies(got the two player battlebox) and one thing I've found is that magnetizing figures to swap out different heads and arms add a huge amount of diversity to your armies.
I'm interesting and using the bones kickstarter to build up some Warlords armies.
I'd like to see about magnetizing the Head and forlegs of the Griffin to convert it into a Sphinx for the Nefsokar, if I can find a Sphinx head that can be used. This way when I want the griffin for the dwarf armies I can simply swap out the head.
Heres the two figures..unfortunately the spinx head isn't seperated from the body so can't just buy it from the boneyard..But I'm gonna see if I can't track one down from some other sphinx figure.
