Here are some pictures of the Scarab I finish painting today.
It’s the main subject of my recent diorama project WIP.
The original sculpt is by Bob Olley.

I now realize that the scarab reminds me of the cicada - coool mini - cooler paint job!

Very nice! Love the detail on the wings as well. I'd want to swat it if I saw it sitting on the table. :lol:

@Goblyn, it true that green would also be a nice choice of color for the legs. I was inspired from the real colors of a striped love beetle when I painted my Scarab. I think there is endless possibilities of colors when it comes to paint insects.

Some colors are more usual for camo, like when we think of praying mantis, we think green, but then there is the Malaysian shield praying mantis, the giant devil’s flower mantis, the orchid prying mantis, the African praying mantis, all good example of wild color insects.

There is thousand of different Scarabs, all with there own colors. If I have the chance to paint another Scarab or insect someday, I’ll choose different colors. But then again, it will definitely be catchy colors.

Now I’ll have to find a Giant Praying Mantis to spill some paint on!
