well, I know enough about growing food that no one should starve, if we had the start up capital to have the necessary equipment and land to grow enough food. Plus we would need some form of income, so a market garden seems logical. So we're talking...call it an acre per person of garden and then we would need at least that much, maybe twice that for grain crops. A herd of oh, twenty beef cows, and another 20 for dairy. Idaho gets winter, so we would need hay. So, another 400 acres for grazing and hay. Yeah, give me a couple million, and I could set us up just fine.....

Speaking of the commune... whose discussion I missed until now... We seem to have a good wide range of backgrounds... it could work....
We have a farmer, some nurses, maybe a couple of doctors, mechanics, accountants, and people willing to help, what more do we need?
Though it would totally and completely fail, possibly even Jones style, but it's very fun to think about.
Our Jones style would be lead poisoning, that might take longer.
