Hi, this will be my first post on the forum, be gentle with me 8)

I tried to put up a few photos but I suspect the gradient background is a no-no as they've all been denied. :down:

So anyway, constructive criticism would be very welcome.

This story shall the good man teach his son;
That the 25th of August shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that pledges his cash with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And foolish men playing with thier Space Marines
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their painting cheap while any speaks
That pledged with us upon Reaper's Kickstarter day.

I very much approve of this! Personally, I think it's splendid.

Buglips, that is just epic, and so very wrong.

Fantastic job!

I think I can see one dab of eye paint on his cheek in the first pic.

Mind revealing your recipe for the hair?
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

English economist & philosopher (1806 - 1873)

The person I painted it for wanted a Gimli colour beard. The beard starts with a thinned down coat of citadel vermin fur followed by washes of flesh wash and brown wash. Final detail work where the beard meets the skin with 1:1 black:water to make look shadowed.

The fur cloak was Bestial brown with washes of brown wash, flesh wash and chestnut wash (in vertical strips, chestnut on raised areas and brown on deep areas) last a light drybrush with a creamy light brown mix. The claws on the cloak were bleached bone.with a wash of devlan mud highlighted with a mix of skull white and rotting flesh.

I use citadel paints so apologies if those names don't mean much to you.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. You can see the blog entry on this one and others at

I wanted to take a look to see if there were any problems with making Bones minis look great (I haven't painted one up yet).

It looks like the answer is no problems at all. Thanks, you did your work well.

It turned out that the border was the problem. Some photos of this model are up on the reaper gallery now.

I found what you wrote on your blog about GW vs. Reaper insightful. Makes me wonder if Bones + Warlord might equal a game-changer in a couple of years, with people switching.

I know some people still love GW, but if you ask me who I'd rather see as Big Kid on The Block, it's Reaper all the way. They seem distinctly less . . . evil.

Thanks Bug, its such a shame Games Workshop turned from the 'Plucky Rebels' into the 'Evil Empire'.

Great to see that the plastic paints up pretty nicely.

GW... their reformulated washed are terrible... the viscosity is too low for my techniques.

That's what i've found too. Devlan Mud, for instance, used to be great but Agrax Earthshade (its replacement) isn't worth buying in my opinion. I have heard that Army Painter's Strongtone Ink is even better than Devlan Mud though so that might be a good alternative.

For washes shading and darklining, Vallejo Smoke used to be fun. Nice, translucent brown-black.

Naturally, he died because a wizard exploded.
