Hello new friends!

My buddy and I just picked up the CAV 1.o rules booklet at the half price books.

we are attempting to build mechs from scratch to play with the CAV mechanics,
however I see the modification points charts near the end but Idont see any points charts for selecting a base chassis, movement or base armor.

is there a resouce that details the points values to build a mech Completely from scratch??

I dont even see the chassis points in the CAV 2.0 :(

please help as we are looking to use our own miniatures: 15 mm infantry and 1/144 tanks, planes and MechWarrior mechs

we recognize the fundemental weopan systems, power, equipment ands such but how musch for a basic light or heavy mech? how much for base armor? etc...

any help would be great! i look forward to playing CAV soon!

RIck

I would recommend getting Journal of Recognition (or JOR) 1 and 2 which which give background fluff and actual construction rules. You can get them for a song online.

I don't have my books at hand, but AFAIK there is no scratch build system, even in the JORs. CAV2 does not have build system period. What you can try using the CAV1 system is pick a chassis that is closest to what you envision for your model and work from there.

I'm not so sure I'd want to get hit by a missile with a "dog brain" AI.

Hey Sarge,
JOR1 (not JOR2) will let you build CAVs from scratch for CAV 1.

Hey Sarge,

CAV2 was already out when I got the JORs and I was more interested in the fluff as I had no intention of playing CAV1. Therefore I didn't look at the rule sections.

I've actually toyed with going back to CAV1 for this very reason but using a fixed number for Armor as to opposed die rolls for combat resolution. I really felt like that was one of the only weaknesses of the old rules. Well and maybe add firing arcs and tweak def fire. But those would certainly be maybes.

Papa, I agree, the defensive roll along side the attack roll is odd and very different from the like of other systems. I played alot of Hero clicks and things seemed simpler when the attacker had to make the roll.

however I guess then you would have to redesignthe damage allocation matrix as well, given that it is based on the delta of the two rolls.

my only 'defense" to the way it is . both rolling is that it allows for deflecting hits, dodges by the pilot, or something.

I pla alot of Risk and both attacker and defender roll in combat so I suppose its cool.

I'm no math whiz but there must be a way to determine the mathmatical probability of positive similar results with one side having a fixed number.
