So does anyone else have movies playing for inspiration while painting? I've noticed that it helps to have something playing in the background and I usually pick the genre which I'm painting. This weekend I finished a western mini so I watched Open Range and Warriors Way. I also worked on a pulpy mini so I watched The Phantom and finally a military mini so I wrapped up with The Flying Tigers. It was fun. I was really in the mood to paint. Just curious if anyone else does this. :)

No I don't, but I usually have music playing.

What figure is that in your avatar and where can I get one??

Thanks.

It's a mini I had commissioned for Exile Games who puts out Hollow Earth. She is the Martian Princess in the source book Revelations of Mars that hopefully will be coming out soon. I sent them all the minis I had made. I think they plan to either sell them or use them as a kickstarter reward. I hope that happens sooner rather than later. I would love to see her in the hands of people who like her and would paint her. Seems like a waste for her to be collecting dust.

I've been waiting for that addition to Hollow Earth. If they do go the kickstarter route let me know.

I used to, but found I didn't get as much done, so now I do music or books on tape only.

Some tales are better left for the light of day.

Matter of personal taste. I like it, but I know others who do not. I often go with "Mystery Science Theatre 3000."

I usually listen to music (classical, World - Loreena McKennitt, Medieval Baebes, etc.). I also really enjoy listening to the podcasts from BBC History Magazine:

I watch a bit of everything but usually it is TV series I have on DVD. I like the background noice as well as somewhere to look from time to time to avoid eye strain. Heck right now I'm watching Bones and tomorrow will likely be Criminal Minds...

Justice league unlimited. How sad is that? Love all the dc animated stuff.

Silence or CNN (depends if there is anything on cable), unless I have share the room with SWMBO, then it is generally twaddle, until Big Bang Theory and then all work ceases!

When I used to paint I had an old video tape that I used to play. It had A Knight's Tale and Queen of the Damned back to back, along with some 3rd movie. Maybe Ghosts of Mars?

Anyways, A Knight's Tale is just as funny to listen to as to watch, and Queen of the Damned has a great soundtrack.

I like animated cartoons, but it's irksome having to put on another one every half hour. One I like to do periodically is to put on a "Night Gallery" DVD and just tell it to "play all," so it'll run for hours.

I generally listen to music, the genre depending on what I'm painting and the style/flavor I'm going for. The Wood Elf King, for example, was painted to Nightwish, one of my dark fairy familiars was painted to the tune of Evanescance, and a lot of my dragons from the familiar sets are done to Blackmore's Night...

If I do put on a movie, it's also usually something genre appropriate to set the mood. The 13th Warrior, Kingdom of Heaven, Cutthroat Island, The Three Musketeers, maybe The Road Warrior or Star Wars if I'm doing something post-apocalyptic or sci-fi, etc...
When I did a Pinewood Derby car for a co-worker's son a few years ago, it was designed and built with Gone In 60 Seconds constantly playing in the background.
