Just curious on how different they are from regular X-acto blades. I've had them in my hand twice but always put them back when I'm at HL, ha ha.

A google search with "Why zirconium nitride coated tools" will yield some informative articles. blade life and better cutting with certain applications is the general answer. Not having actually put this to the test I couldn't say. I'm pretty good at breaking the blades, so I'm not sure how a coating will stop that ::P:

My biggest problem is I buy a new pack & then use like 1 blade out of it before I'm like uhhhhhhhhhhhhh where did they go?? Eventually I'm gonna run across a pile of the damn things.

That sounds painfully familiar.

Then again, when I do eventually come upon one of the missing packages, it's quite a joyful moment. It seems most often to happen just when I'm thinking of running off to the hardware store, thus saving me the trip!

Meanwhile, looked zirconium nitride up on Wikipedia. Very interesting. You know, the same stuff is used to make zirconia, which is a widely-used diamond substitute, so likely it is a very hard substance good for cutting, and like diamond saws, should last longer.
