Occullus, The Eye Beast Hour by Hour WIP
Posted 17 July 2012 - 11:25 AM
Anyway, between last night and my hour session at lunch today, I finished all of the eyeballs. I'm going to do the membranes and claws tomorrow. My goal is to have the mini fully completed by the end of the week. If I get the membranes done tomorrow, I'll try to get another pictoral update posted tomorrow night.

I finished the eyes. I think i already covered how, so I won't bore you again with that. All that is left now is the belly, the base, and some touch-ups like adding some red glazes to the mouth and smoothing a few transitions that are bugging me.I probably have about three hours left at most. I'm still not certain how I'm going to dress the base.
Have a good night,

@DixonGrfx: Yeah, I have a new light setup and about 10 different backgrounds. I've been playing around trying to figure out which one is best. This last time I'd basecoated the base and it went from white to dark brown. This threw off the camera and the background I was using isn't working right now. I'll try out a few others tonight. Thanks for the input on this; I'm not sure I would have noticed otherwise.
So at lunch today, I finished the belly, added some red glazes to the inside of the mouth, and painted the stalagmites. I just have a few touch-ups left. I'm trying to decide if I should do something else with the base, or leave it stark and barren. Any thoughts on basing? Part of me wants to leave it bare because this will be used for a sale picture and I don't want to missrepresent what comes with the mini (though that ship may have sailed since I put it on a CAV base).

Andy this is outrageous work from start of sculpting to finish and final paint. Do you know if these will be ready for Gen-Con I would like to have at least one.
I wish I knew. Troll Forged is a one man show, and I know he's really backed up with new sculpts that need to be released now that his new plastic system is working. I don't know where this mini is in the que. Sorry I don't have a better answer. I'm learning fast as a sculptor that it often takes many months for sculpts to be released once I am done with them, no matter who is producing them. I suppose that is why most mini companies don't want sculptors to run WIPs; it gets everyone interested too early in the process.

I painted the base and did a few touch-ups. I still have a couple to go. Now I am stuck on the base.
Part of me wants to leave it stark and barren (caves are pretty barren and this would best reflect how the mini comes) as follows:
Dark Blue Background
Another idea I have is to sculpt a dragon skull for the base (I put the Hydra head in as a place holder to get the idea; I'd actually sculpt a dragon skull though):
The next idea is to have an open treasure chest, with the idea that the beast caught some adventurers trying to steal its loot:
Med Blue Background
Finally, I thought of doing a shield and sword:
Light Tan Background
Please let me know which base concept you like best, or give me an alternate idea. I can sculpt nearly anything I need.
Finally, let me know which background you like best (you can also pick the dark one I used in previous posts).
Thanks for your help,
