Hello,

I got a new camera that does HD, macro video and want to try my hand at shooting tutorials, only I need video editing software to pull it into something useful. I don't have a lot I can invest in this now so I'm hoping for share ware, but haven't found much. I use Audacity for audio, can anyone recommend something similar for video?

Thanks,

Andy

To be honest the basic version of windows movie maker available to Windows 7 users is fairly decent and is free. If you want to spend money I'd look into the under $100 version of Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere.

Agree with Sloth. But, if youend up needing to buy then ...

For PCs, Vegas is the way to go. Obviously the cheaper version wont give all the bells and whistles but it still does a bunch and there are lots of video based tutorials for how to use all the cool stuff in it.

I own Vegas pro and it's great. My sister has the cheaper version and it does about 75% what the pro version does but is limited to 2 video and 2 audio tracks (as opposed to unlimited).

Thanks guys. I'm going to give Windows movie maker a try and see if it works for me. I didn't even know it was there. Thanks for the help.

If you've ever used WMM for older versions of Windows, you might be sad to see the new version does not include the Timeline for precision editing like the older version for XP and Vista did...but the new one handles AVCHD, unlike the older version, which is why I had to go on my own quest for software.

I have an older PC, so I've been running AVS Video Editor ver4. It gets a job done, but is a leeeetle prone to hangups that most often involve an error resulting in a program shutdown...not a problem if you regularly save your work..but sometimes I still get caught. I've not yet tried Vegas, but I hear AVS is pretty much the same program. If Vegas is more stable, I'm willing to give it a try myself.

They've got free 30-day trials at their site: http://www.sonycreat...download/trials

I'd start by reading up on Movie Stuido HD as it's the under $50 option then they just go up from there by adding more features.
