They look great!
One of the ways I try to combat that (getting bored building all same colored units) is instead of saying the whole model has to be the same colors, I tend to pick a single unifying color and saying each model has to have at least one item with that color in it somewhere. So, in this case, it might be red. The red on the shield, red in the berries in the basket, and red in the armor plate or something like that
Ah, yes. For some reason, I think of this as the Mordheim method- I guess that was where I first started painting loose warbands.
For these guys, I'm doing something looser still- All of these minis will share methods in common- they will all have matching bases, NMM, cartoonish black lining and every color will be 'bookended' with complimentary colors.
The bookending I mentioned is taking complimentary colors, shading with one and highlighting with another. For example, the pink kobold is shaded with purple and highlighted with red, while the yellow one actually has green shading and pink highlights.
I find this method makes neutral colors look brighter, and bright colors even brighter. It's a little odd for me, since I tend to push things a little more neutral than this, but I'm having quite a bit of fun with it.
Very nice looking paint jobs! Good idea on the variety, too. I know all about getting burned out an painting whole armies at once, withg every figure looking the same.
I don't think I've seen those minis before though, who makes them?
Thanks- these minis come from a game called Super Dungeon Explore. It is put out by Soda Pop Miniatures and published through Cool Mini or Not. It's a dungeon crawler (like Heroquest of old) and all of the minis have these chibi/cartoony looks to them. I think a lot of the excitement over the game comes from just how different these minis are from nearly everything else available.
Also, I know some people are using Mouslings as heroes.
