Another situation that came up as my wife and I have been reviving the old Warlord-y ways:
Model with First Strike charges and attacks, but fails to kill its target. Next activation it is still in Base-to-Base and attacks again: does the attacker still benefit from First Strike?

No. First Strike only applies when B2B contact is initiated.
