HI,

i'm an old school miniature painter/collector (Citadel before GW, Ral Partha, and others). Reaper has miniatures that i find unrivaled in quality and variety.

Reaper: Draw on your community and company core, grab 100 of your finest miniatures (easy), go to George Martin (That man looks like a miniatures lover, i tell you), and pitch him a system that brings to life the scope, savagery, and some of the intrigue, of his Song of Ice and Fire. it's a natural fit: sets matching all the houses great and small. sets with the races, wildlings, etc... the sets would be both war-game pieces and collector items, given Reaper's quality offerings. the other GoT offerings are not table top war game offerings in the true sense; i think there's room for Reaper to please the game and the collector in one glorious rib cage cleaving stroke.

More importantly, do it before "The Others" (whose name may not be spoken w/o violating their intellectual property rights (rhymes with "Lame's Slaveshop")) do it.

just a thought.

Dark Sword already offers a range of Game of Thrones minis, though they don't have an associated game.

i was just there (first time in a while) and missed it. crap. I'll go check it out. On a parallel note, GW has raided the Lord of the Rings treasure chest, but another company produces licensed LoTR miniatures (and if it weren't kosher, you can be sure that GW would have sued them down). Maybe there's room for two here as well.

That's because one licence is essentially for display miniatures and the other is for a game. So this same format would certainly work.

Also, Mithril has had the Middle Earth license for a long time - Grenadier, then GW, the Mithril, then both Mithril and GW.... I think that the Tolkein estate is treating LotR and ME as separate properties, not the default purpose of the minis.

I do not know if George R. R. Martin (who is indeed a gamer) treats Game of Thrones and Song of Ice and Fire as separate properties, if Game of Thrones is a separate property then HBO is added to the mix, and the price for the license would likely skyrocket.

Not quite. It was Chaosium's "Superworld," according to the intro in GURPS Wild Cards. And IIRC, the players in this superhero campaign included Melinda Snodgrass, who would later go on to a successful writing career herself.

Some of George's fave characters in this campaign included Geriatric Man, who could age at will, and Nova Boy, who could make the sun go nova.

Once.

There was a Game of Thrones miniatures game in development several years ago. As a matter of fact, many sculptors who do work for us sculpted several miniatures in multiple scales before the project was scrapped, sold off, and scrapped again. Perhaps someone (like Jim Ludwig from Darksword or some of the sculptors) can pop on here and shed some light on that.

Actually the Tolkien Estate is not involved in the licensing of the Lord of the Rings Properties. Those rights are owned by Tolkien Enterprises. J.R.R sold the rights to LoTR and the Hobbit back in the early '70s which is why Christopher Tolkien couldn't do anything to block the production of the movies even though he tried. Everything else created by Tolkien that exists outside of LoTR and the Hobbit is owned by the Tolkien Estate, so essentially anything 1st and 2nd age, like the Silmarillion. Just to add a little confusion to the mix.
