With the 2nd edition of Warlord, the opportunity was taken to add new factions when the hardcover book came out.

Will there be another one soon? I'd love to see a whack at Mercenaries utilizing the wide range of Black Legionaire figures and see the Reapers get their own faction of undead, especially one that focused on the 'fleshless' ones as there were several wrath overlords and ancient dead and other bits that would fit in well with them.

The newest one that is being beta tested is the halfings. With so many fractions, it is pretty damn hard to add one more.

My thought is, "What's left to add?" I mean, ASIDE from halflings, Warlord's pretty much got the entire fantasy battle spectrum covered. There's humans, barbarians, elves, lizard men, dwarves, a mixed mercenary faction, cool evil guys, undead, undead pirates, orcs and goblins, homicidal gnomes, werewolves (to go with the vampires and mummies from the undead, previously mentioned), and a slew of human subfactions and one elf subfaction to boot.

I mean, the only thing I can think of is LIVE pirates; certainly Reaper makes enough of those to assemble a faction. Beyond that... I can't think of anything else just off hand. Angry Birds, maybe? Either that, or start plugging in the superheroes, science fiction heroes, and cowboys from Chronoscope, but I personally would rather see those end up in a different game or series of games; I have heard it said that someone is working on a boxed set game featuring cowboys and a variation on the Warlord rules, and that's fine with me. Long as I get my Zombie Apocalypse skirmish game in there, too.

I agree. Warlord is fantastic as it is. Though, being that each army is complete, you could always add similar factions with different builds. Maybe fire giants or some sort of amphibious race.

I would love to see the system adapted for other genres like sci-fi or steam punk to go with all the amazing minis out there.

I guess I'm on a different boat. For example, the Sisters are essentially a mercenary company, which is why I mentioned the Black Legion. There are two orc factions, two elf factions, two dwarf factions, so why not two 'undead' or 'undeadish' factions? This is where the faction for the Reapers would come in. I'd love to see the Four Horsemen so to speak actually done up on dragons this time around as opposed to horses. In addition, while we do have the demon/drow faction from the first book, a 'pure' demon/devil/outsider list would be great. There are also numerous barbarians that don't necessarily go with the Frost Giants eh?

There are 3 undead or undead-ish factions. And what are you looking for from Demons that the Demonic Conclave doctrine and using only the demon models from Darkspawn fails to provide?

I'm not trying to shoot you down, just understand better exactly what it is that you are looking for. With 19 different factions, nearly 60 doctrines, and over 625 individual datacards, it can be difficult to see the forest for the trees.

The only niche I can see missing is an amphibian/fishmen race, though I am curious to see what is done with the Karkarions and Cult of Maersuluth at ReaperCon.

And that is where I'd agree with you, but I always have a little bit of a difficult time of figuring out how they got on the battlefield... :;): That issue with suspension of disbelief aside, I think an aquatic faction of sahuagin and the like would be pretty awesome.

I was always disappointed there wasn't a faction of good-oriented fairy folk. Also who here remembers the Skoli? http://www.reapermin...l/02443_concept

...and Shakandara nails it in two. I like barbarians. I don't much like yetis. Therefore I collect and play Icingstead with giants and barbarians, without yetis. Seems to me I could work it out into two separate factions, giants and barbarians, if I really wanted to.

That being said, I would think the sahuagin/deep ones/fishguys got on the battle field the same way Razig's pirates do: they beached and walked ashore.

Not a fan of Yetis either but I use Ogres or other large base models and my icingstead plays just fine.

Does anybody else find it odd, by the way, that the information age has led to language becoming an oblique and imprecise tool where even the most straightforward phrasing is pored over with chicken entrails and bone tossing to divine the true meaning?

I think with reasonable proxies, any hobbiest can find a Warlord army they want to paint.

That's where I struggle; a lack of water does not prevent Razig from coming ashore, even far ashore. But fishmen? Unless all of their battles are taking place on the beach, I can't help viewing them as, well, a fish out of water... :;):

Granted, I don't see fish-men in the middle of a desert, but I do see them within marching distance of rivers. There are enough salt-water critters that can tolerate fresh-water that I can suspend disbelief based on the available terrain.

It's fairly likely that a battle will occur near a water source, so I'm very good with a fish-men army.
