Hi all,

I joined back in 2004 but it seems I've needed nearly 8 years to come up with my first post. So this is a belated hello to all the fine folk here and a chance for me to show my latest painting effort.

I bought this miniature back when it first came out and made a start on it immediately but struggled to make any headway and eventually put it aside. It'd been kicking around in various boxes and drawers for possibly eight years when I decided to have another crack at finishing it just last week. I wanted to continue on from where I'd left off, without stripping or re-basing the miniature - after being in that state for so long it seemed the right thing. Anyway it was mostly just a bit of fun, doubly so because I enjoyed the painting process and got to finish something that'd been bugging me on and off for years.

And a pic of the miniature as it was beforehand.

Well done.

wow Arjay, that blade looks fantastic, and so does the weathered armour.
not too fond of the skin. Not that it's bad or something, but it lacks some additional colours in the mid-tones to make it more interesting. I know it's a bit of nitpicking, but with your skills there are only such details to be (nit)picked for criticism ::):

I've never really liked that sculpt, btw. something about proportions, I guess

Nice! I've never cared for this sculpt, but I really like the skin tones you've created.

Welcome in.

Amazing job! I'm especially fond of the hair and the armor; the red paint on the armor is really a nice effect!

Thanks for the comments. I did try to get a bit of colour into the flesh, there's greens, fleshtones, warm browns, blues and purples present but I think you're right - the midtones could have done with some more obvious colour nuances to liven things up.

Love it. Superb mini. I really like the battlescar look of the armor. Good stuff.

Glad you like the armour, it was done using a variation of the hairspray technique but without an airbrush which is what the technique is built around so I guess I'm lucky it worked out at all.

When looking through my half finished stuff for something to paint I decided that I'd go with the miniature I was least likely to revisit so yeah I agree, it's not the greatest sculpt but it did grow on me.

Trust me - it was pretty bad before I added the red but I can see why people might not like it.

Thanks to everyone else too, it's nice to get some positive feedback.

Excellent work, the blade looks very nice, and I like it's grim face and the scar.

Love it. The paint work is incredible!
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."
