Bull Orcs have a more ape-like build. Longer, more powerful arms and shoulders, shorter legs than their Black Orc cousins, who appear more human in build proportion.

I really like the bull orc concept. I like that they are less like a strong human with an ugly face and more animal-ish. The arms remind me of an Ape and the face is a hodge podge of animals. There were an old line of bullish style orcs I remember from the early to mid 80s that reminded me of the Trollocs from Wheel of Time.

I always liked those Warlord bull orc packs with the archers and the melee guys, etc.

When I first saw the Bull Orcs, especially Kharg (the sgt), I immediately thought of the guards in Jabba's throne room, the ones the Rancor ate.

I've always considered Bull Orcs to be Neanderthal-like Orcs and the Black Orcs to be the Homo Sapien. Both are from the same genetic path, they just diverged on the evolutionary path. Because they were seperated geographically, they both established their own distinct and seperate cultures and didn't kill each other off.

Yet.

I like the bull orcs for the most part except that the heads seem peculiarly small, even for a creature that is supposed to be ape-like. It would seem a creature evolved with enough brain capacity to form a society would need a larger skull capacity than an ape. It also seems logical that a creature evolved for fighting while standing would have a slightly longer neck...

....NOT that I've put much thought into the physiognomy of orcs or anything, mind you. ;)

So if this ape-like analogy is meant to justify bull orc physiques, then why are the females all so smokin-hawt? I mean, Kiakara is built like a brick outhouse...beefy, but still shapely...and she has a neck. If females are that much more highly evolved, then why are they letting their gorilla menfolk rule the roost? I highly doubt it is out of respect or even fear. Kiakara looks like the kind of girl that could have her man poisoned, backstabbed and buried half-alive before he's even figured out which end of his sword is the business-end.

As for black orcs, they're pretty much the ideal of what an orc should look like.

One Bull Orc male warlord, one female and the Goblin/Cyclops master/blaster Warlord. That seems pretty equitable to me!

The more I look at the two pics in the original post, the more I am inclined to agree about SOME of the bull orcs. That second one with all the chainmail isn't quite so out of proportion, but that first one's arms appear so long that they might drag the ground if he let them hang naturally. For gorillas this makes sense, since they climb or swing from tree to tree as much as they walk, but bull orcs I assume do a LOT of walking and running, and fighting more like zulus than huns. (Running 20 miles a day to engage a battle because they got no horsies...yet)

Black orcs, on the other hand, prefer to invade with slower deliberation, sack, colonize, and invent AFVs and long range missiles.

PS that first fella has some really big feet.

Is he single, and more importantly, does he have a really cool car?

Are you going by the pics or have you actually seen the minis? The Bulls don't take good pics. I'll agree that they aren't as cool as the Black Orcs, but after painting a couple thousand points worth of them they kind of grow on you........

The Bull Orc Archers are probably the most "off" proportioned with their arms. Even the other orignal release Bull Orcs had shorter arms. A lot of that is due to the pose, which exacerbates the situation. But their arms are really a bit longer than the other bull orcs. Yes, I measured them.

I still love em though.

The small head used on the BO Archers and Fighters seem to me to be more the culprit than the huge arms, though Qwyk's right about the Archer's arms. If you look at the Bull Orc Hunters (the ones with the spears), they're not so odd looking.

Now I'm sitting here looking at Varaug. I never noticed before just how huge his feet are. (Yeah, a girl notices feet, dontchaknow). Kharg, on the other hand... well..... poor Kharg. I hope he has other hobbies besides the ladies.

"Get your hands off me, you damned dirty orc!"

Er, no, wait...
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."
John Stuart Mill
English economist & philosopher (1806 - 1873)
