I don't post here... much... but, with PPM being limited as it is, I'd love to see reaper pick up the slack that DDM is leaving with PPM. I'd love to see the villagers made in to PPM. Just 1 request, can you make them with a uniform base of some kind?

Just add the uniform base (shape & size) that you prefer. You want hex bases, Froggy likes Pennies and Nickels, somebody else wants Warhammer/Warlord square basing, I want circular plastic bases . . .

Reaper gets to sell more if they don't tie these to a specific basing style.

I want circular plastic bases . . .

It would be nice, though, if someone offered up a set black plastic bases that matched the shape/thickness/style of the DDM bases. I've got all sorts of minis I'd glue to those, including LE ones.

I'd rather see that than the LE figures get standardized bases.

Someone does: they are called Litko Aerosystems (and they will do any combo of size/color you'd like).

But, I usually settle for Ace Hardware and stainless steel instead of plastic. You see, Ace Hardware sells fender washers in a variety of sizes some of which match the DDM bases. I just have to put up with the facts that: fender washers are sturdier than plastic, will stick to magnets, are cheaper than anybody will sell a plastic part for, are generally coated in shiny zinc, they give the minis some heft, if I really want the DDM thickness I am obliged to stack two -- giving the mini even more heft, . . . <_< . . . such are the things I 'put up with' for my hobbies.

Litko's are laser cut from plexi if you get them in black, otherwise they are wood or metal. Lasercut leave a sharp edge, and I really don't care for the gloss look of black plexi. Fender washers work well, but only for smaller base sizes - less than 2". And I won't base on wood or magnets.

Getting bases of a give size & shape isn't really a problem - it's getting consistent looking bases in plastic across the entire size range that the DDM miniatures cover that's the issue to me. I'd snap up sets of appropriately sized injection molded bases, otherwise, I'll base figures as needed on whatever I have on hand, or can find at a local store.

I like to buy stuff that looks like it belongs together. I don't want to HAVE to mod something out of the box, I'd rather mod something to make it different than make it up to par.

It's a request, they can take it or leave it.

Keep it slow and steady. Heisler summed up everything nicely.

Assuming they get product here/out, slow and steady is good, but practically non-existent is kind of bad.

My first post is to +1 Greyhaze's post!

If Reaper puts out their townsfolk sets in Legendary Encounters, I will be a happy camper.
Noble types too. We have a big need for noncombatant type regular folk.

Ah, so it is confirmed then. I don't know what the real reason for the cancellation was, but I've heard that it could have been caused by a decrease in sales, higher production costs, or some other reason. Whatever the cause, collecting DDM has been a lot of fun for the better part of a decade, and while I never much cared for the randomization Wizards did produce hundreds of fantasy miniatures which, for the first time ever, were miniatures durable enough to be taken virtually anywhere.

If given a choice though, I'd much rather buy the plastic miniatures I actually want rather than buy a blind box, especially since I now have a large miscellaneous collection of miniatures. For this and two other reasons I've loved the Legendary Encounters line since it was first announced.

The second reason is the painting quality, which initially matched the DDM pieces and has since improved significantly. The pieces may be a bit more expensive, but they are much more eye catching when they are arrayed on a gaming table, as most are very colourful and detailed (the Reaper orcs are personal favourites of mine). By contrast, when I array a group of common DDM monsters on the table the overall impression is usually dreary, as many commons had areas of their black plastic left unpainted as a cost reduction measure. The early Mage Knight pieces had a similar but much worse problem. Legendary Ecounters has used black plastic in places as well, but the practice thus far has been far less intrusive.

The third is the style of Reaper's sculpts; I've been a long time fan of Reaper's sculpts, since they have a very old school 1980s fantasy feel that I absolutely adore. Many of Wizards of the Coast's newer designs for classic monsters, such as the gray ape-like orcs, don't appeal to me at all, and it's great to have a range of more 'traditional' monsters available. It may seem silly, but seeing pre-painted green orcs and non-bony giant rats has made me very enthusiastic.

The only part I'm not terribly fond of is the waiting, of course. I've wanted to see Legenadary Encounter's Marilith and Ettin for some time now, but at present have no idea when or if they will ever be released. I hope that the demand for Legendary Encounters will rise with this news and Reaper's profits will increase, as I believe this line has tremendous potential. :B):

There is a place for prepainted plastic minis. Wizards, though, ain't interested in takin' it. They've shaved a LOT of stuff off the D&D product catalog, and put more of it further back; their releases this year seem pretty meager, and farther between, than in previous years. Not just minis -- the whole D&D line. I'd sure give a pretty to know precisely why.

DDM are back.

and even Paizo is making some painted plastic minis

While DDM are back from the Dead it is more a resurrection, the LE line is the slow lumbering zombie that just staggers along and is the undead thing
With Paizo/Wizkids and WotC making minis Repears apparent ignoring of the LE line no longer means we don't have to wait another year for 4 new minis...

Good news for you! It sounds like all of your problems are solved, and you won't have to expend as much energy as you have.

It's easy to criticize and rail against a cautious approach when it isn't your livelihood on the line and when you're not looking at the actual financial numbers.

It's ok Ron if people think Reaper dropped the ball on this. Because they did. There is being cautious for good and cautious for bad. I think Reaper is erring on the side of bad.

Does anybody else find it odd, by the way, that the information age has led to language becoming an oblique and imprecise tool where even the most straightforward phrasing is pored over with chicken entrails and bone tossing to divine the true meaning?

Which is a valid opinion. Being one whose personal financials are affected by these decisions, and one who is also personally involved in these decisions, I'm going to go with Vutpakdi on this one. Legendary Encounters has sold very well for us, despite what some consider to be "overly cautious growth". We are continually re-examining the growth rate, and allow me to assure you that we have only the desire to see it turn huge profits that buy me a helicopter and a shark tank.

You know, in that same year, you could have bought the metal versions of whatever was in previews and painted it better than Reaper did...
