Also, does anyone know where I can find the printable datacards? This thread - http://www.reapermin...all-data-cards/ - has dead links to a .pdf, and I can't find them anywhere else.
I have no experience playing wargames, only painting reaper minis for tRPG characters. How many models should I be looking to get to start? My FLGS is having a painting contest soon and I want to use that to start my army, since I have to paint three from one "unit." Unfortunatley nobody there plays this, so it's hard to get help..

For the Datacard and Armybuilder you can go at: http://www.reapergames.com/
I'ts not about how many models it's about how many points and you have to respect the games rules about Leaders/Elites/soldiers and Monsters. I am new to this game and I start with 500 points. It's easier and after a few game you can go up to 1000 points, what peoples usually play are 1000 pts games. So look at the datacard and the the rules and go try to build yourself an army with the army builder at the same address.
You can post it, there always someone to help around here.
Happy so see you around.

The rules are the same, the clarifications are "minor". I would buy the one with the factions you like. Because you basically buy the book for the details on rules and more background stories about the factions. All other datacards, factions doctrines and SA of the others faction can be found on this website I gave you. As of right now you don't need to own both books to play all factions.

There is an army creator and data card database at http://www.reapergames.com/ . You can use this to determine what models to pick, but it won't let you know if you have an illegal unit (like two commanders, or too many unique models).
As for what to paint, pick something you like. Warlord doesn't have large units, at most you might have 8 figures: a leader, an elite, a spellcaster and a handful of soldiers. There are many "solo" units that consist of a single figure. Also, the rules allow you to proxy ANY Reaper figure, and there are many lovely sculpts in the DHL line that work. I'm fond of Bob Ridolfi's mummies and Egyptian themed figures:
3506: Egyptian Priestess and Baboon
3428: Barrow Warden Mystic
14098: Khufu, Nefsokar Warlord
14081: Netikerti, Nefsokar Mage
14048: Fatima, Nefsokar Cleric
14064: Khadath, Nefsokar Captain
2740: Mummy King on Throne
Here's one from Werner Klocke you might use, too: 2594: Egyptian Priestess

As for what you can expect to paint, numbers-wise, a typical Warlord 2 army list at 1000 points (the point value the game was designed for) is around 20-30 models. This can vary wildly based on play-style preference; armies can be as small as a handful of models (<10), to massive hordes (70+). Take a scan through some of the army lists that people have posted in this thread for ideas of what to try out. My recommendation is then to use models you already have as proxies to see if you like how the list plays. Tinker with it until you find a good base list that you like to play, then start getting your models to fill the list. At that point, you can implement Inarah's suggestion regarding proxies for any models that you don't care for the appearance of. You should then have an army that a) performs the way you like, and b) looks the way you want.

Tactics: This build was all about dictating engagements with the enemy, and when the engagements happen, bringing ridiculous amounts of bonuses to assure that the target is destroyed. It is a high risk/high reward list. The average DV of the army is only 9, and the model count is relatively low (22) for an army using a Totem of Battle. Also, a full 148 points of the list are consumed in Equipment of one kind or another. Against the wrong list or scenario (particularly those in which taking and holding an objective is required), it would be shredded fairly quickly. However, with the ability to delay an opponent troop off the board until sometime in round 2, plus the high mobility of the force, it is possible to generate large point inequalities early in the battle. By using Khamsin Lancers, I had the ability to Leap over terrain and models, combine First Strikes to deny Defensive Strikes and Tough checks, and utilize the combination of Rage, Swift Attack (in conjunction with Senet's WA ability to grant a +1 MAV when Swift Attacking), Bless from the casters, the Totem, and even Inspire to generate MAVs of +9 to +10. The models in Ah'radivh's troop were only a bonus of one less. Very few models can withstand that kind of concentrated firepower, and the Swift Attack allowed me to consistently pull my cavalry back beyond attack range of the opponent.

Wow... I guess I need to change the security levels on some of the pages on my website. That link you provided was back for playtesting purposes. I guessI forget that people do google searches around here...
Sorry I didn't know it was private...I will edit my post to link to the reapergames version. My mistake.

They want me to play the games they do, but I really don't care for the armies as much as the reaper ones. Unfortunately I can't really explain WHY and that leads to frustration I think. The fact that NOBODY around here plays Warlord doesn't really help... but maybe I'll get some people to start playing. I could be a trend starter at my FLGS :3
