Heyas - Your brush control is improving, and this is a good thing.

Your paints are still going on way to thick, and obscuring your details. Try thinning them down a little bit - maybe add a drop of water for every 2 drops of paint to start. The more comfortable you get, the thinner you'll want your paints - but when it isn't thinned it tends to gloop up and obscure details.

What are you using to prime your models with? This could also be a factor that would help improve your painting

Your color choices are improving too - you have silver on the sword, pommel of the other sword and shin guards - and then gold on the wrists and thighs which help create a sense of movement when looking at the models. You have a green/purple/red thing going on which is leaning into some color theory - for giggles, try a slightly more limited pallet - for example, try different shades of purple, with maybe green as an accent color.

Here is a quick article that describes color theory - and tons of people ehre would be willing to discuss it further. You can learn which colors work well together and why.

You are really making some improvements over the first models you posted! Keep up the good work.

edit - forgot the link to color theory http://www.colormatt...olortheory.html

Looks like you tried a wash this time as well. Definitely showing improvement. Post more!

I wnet back and did alot more detail work on the incubus figure to get him ready for shipping off to Frugy for my exchange. Mostly the major changes are the pants color's, the highlights on the wings and the base color. I redid the freehand "star/pentagram" figure on the base with a darker color so it pops a little more.

I hope fruggy likes it... I sent her a picture of it in her message folder. *grins*

I agree.

Keep working on your brush control. It's one of the biggest hurdles any mini painter has to overcome. It takes time and practice. Keep up the good work, you're heading in the right direction.

Here's something to try when thinning your paint. Grab a flat surface such as an old ceramic plate - in four places put a few drops of paint. To one add no water. To another well add one drop, to the third well add two drops of water and the last well three drops of water. Mix each up thoroughly and then gently brush it across the surface of the plate. Watch how the paint flows off the brush and how the thinned paint seems to flow better than the paint that isn't thinned. Figure out which amount of added water or other thinners works best for you by experimenting in such a way and stick with that formula until you feel ready to move onto trying other things.

Murakumo, I think your color choices are great. They certainly work as base colors.

You said you went in and added more detail, and someone said that it looked like you tried a wash.

Wing feathers are great for washes. Did you try a really really really thin coat of black over the feathers?

As for the paint thickness, I agree with the others, this is likely your greatest hurdle. Thin up the paint (and don't worry about translucency) and you will find that you won't have to struggle nearly as much to get good detail on the figure.

I hope this helps, but your figure shows a lot of promise. Keep up the good work! ::D:
