I'd actually suggest the opposite to what Saint Vierzehn has said as far as army composition.

Perhaps if you ever have the opportunity - and the gongas - to show up at the Asylum some Saturday, I'll teach you the error of your ways.

Where you been hiding my friend? Are you gonna be gaming with us tonight at Gamewyze?

Mombassa, Kenya, actually. Celebrating Thanksgiving with my brother and his family.

I intend to reappear on the scene shortly. But not tonight, and probably not this weekend.

Y'all get a reprieve. :)

I wasn't questioning whether your advice would prove beneficial and effective. In fact in most cases I myself field as many models as possible and limit the number of 'extras' I use to do so, tending to field many weaker models. That being said, for a beginner Nefsokar player, the purchasing the nasty beefier troop types first allow them to get into the game quickly and play games of reasonable size. Likewise there was the 'Undead' theme to consider.

There isn't any faction that can't be played using varied army composition, going Adept heavy or cheap grunt heavy, and still be effective as far as I can tell.

As for meeting at the asylum some Saturday, it's about a 24 hour commute, so I doubt that will happen any time soon :)

Hey all,
Im just getting started back up with warlord after about half a year of playing. I have no clue as to what the new rules are and I think im goin to start with a Nefsokar army. Any suggestions on which models to buy and where to get started?

So you've got the rulebook? If so, all that you need is the RAGE Chronicles 2007 PDF that can be found at www.reapergames.com.

As far as Nefsokar, do you want an undead only army? A living human only army (with a heavy cavalry bent)? Or a mix of the two?

I would probably like a mix of both for versitility. What are the ups and downs of each?

The living Nefsokar models (with their vaguely Arabic feel) tend to be fairly weak unless they are the cavalry models. The living foot Nefsokar models are relatively inexpensive.

The undead Nefsokar models tend to be hard hitting and have a better defensive value (except for the mummies), but they are relatively expensive.

For a starting force of both, you might want to get:
  • a captain of your choice
  • Chosen of Sokar (sgt)
  • Sokar's Prophet, Thoth, or Sokar's Disciple
  • a 9 pack of Ammat Devourers or Tomb Guards
  • Anwar (sgt)
  • 3 Khamsin Mounted Archers
  • the Lesser Avatar or Giant Scorpion

The best advise I can give is to do like I did a few months ago. Sign up for an account on ReaperGames.com, print and read the Nefsokar (and any other factions) Data Card list. Then make your choices from there.

Everyone here has offered good suggestions for their unique style. But of course, it all comes down to your tastes, and style of play. For me, the Anubis Guard the the Khamsin Dervishes make up the mainstay.

See what suits you best. After all, the whole point of Warlord, or any game, is to have fun.

Fight well.

Tough to go wrong with basing the core of your army on Tomb Guards, their aren't many troops in the game that are as excellent across the board as they are. Of course you pay through the nose for them in points cost, but that could work in your favor early in your purchases as including them in your armies allows you to play larger games with fewer models than most factions.

While my models are almost entirely Undead, even if you go for a balanced approach looking at the Khufu, Khadath, and Ammat as your main stay commanders isn't a half bad idea, and Reborn are a pretty sweet Elite choice, sort of like a Super-Tomb Guard.

All good things come to an end.
RC2007 is being replaced with RC2008.

After a while, the time will suddenly come that disease or the sword's edge will cut off your power. Either fire's grasp or flood's surge or blade's bite or spear's flight. Or vicious age, or the flash of your eyes will gutter and burn out! It will be all at once, great campaigner, that death will overpower you.
