this reminds me of a certain nation that decided to get into a protracted "crusade" against "evil" thus leaving them close to economic straights and with very little taste for war.The galaxy is filled with evil, cruel and irresponible despots wanting to destroy everything. To combat this growing darkness the Tempar Nation has become a proactive peacekeeping force. We have a simple goal of stopping fires before they start.
templars are cool, but that's why i play warlord. Spartan VI, you said alot of good points on the terrans. they are now in my que.
Adon has great indirect?...i thought they screwed up ECW prett bad....(magic, ECW, very cute!)

Why not mercs? or better yet, play backplanet Republick of Vishantharyupstan?
make an army out of Open Stock eqivalent of T55's and Mig 21, withthe occasional M-60d or Su-27 for spice.

i'll play cheap morrocan/hindu-rock while in game, and speak in a pointed accent when giving orders....

Any truth to this, I've never played MW, and kinda look down on it for it's plastic-clickyness.
Edit: Some day I will learn to spell.

I read on TMP someone saying (derisively) CAV 2 plays like Mechwarrior Dark Age without a clix base.

What papabees said is exactly right. The "capability degrades" thing is a RAGE core mechanic but other than that the games play completely different.

Unless you count the special abilities...
The core mechanics of both games are similar. Deal with it. The only two main difference between the two is the turn sequence and scale, MW is better played at lower model counts while CAV is better at higher (multiple sections). Section on section in CAV gets old quick. FYI wizkids just release the Solaris Seven rules for MW which uses a different turn sequence then regular MW.
I play both.
And in case your wondering I prefer MW to the current CAV2.
In addition to MW and CAV there is also Heavy Gear Blitz which has a really good game system.

TAR AND FEATHERS!!!!!!!!And in case your wondering I prefer MW to the current CAV2.
I had a large collection of said MW Steel Wolves and Snow-cats, but got sick of the cheap plastic and collectible BS...i stopped playing fast
i know people knock the old battletech, but in the day, we amped it. armor wasn't point based, it was reduced and turned into a form of DR. and we tossed bubbles for numberage, and increased the diagram size and put the crit slots where they sere supposed to go on the mech...pilots did more for the mech as well...
one-on-one duels in that system were actually really fast and fun...my MadCat still proudly sits on my archive shelf

In a way, it's true. In both games a miniatures stats degrade as it takes damage. Having said that, whoever thinks the games are the same would probably also say that a Ford Escort (MW) and a Porshe (CAV II) are the same thing because they are both compact cars!I read on TMP someone saying (derisively) CAV 2 plays like Mechwarrior Dark Age without a clix base.

Do they have better ranges and are you able to move and fire in the same turn?

Depends on the make of the Porshe. If'n ya thinking a 911, well, son that's a sport car not a compact. And yes there are Porshes that are the equivalent to Escorts.

I could be way off here but the biggest differences I am getting is that CAV (and even the new MW) are more about tactics, teamwork and more fun versus accounting and munchkinism. Not knocking that for those who are heavy CBT players but for me, I want to go somewhere, meet with people and play the game through to its conclusion (real or logical if you call the game a bit early) rather than spending several hours to get only a few rounds in. The great thing is that there are all these games out there that appeal to various tastes, have a loyal following of gamers and we can keep them going hopefully for many years to come.
