This was made from bamboo skewers I got at the grocery store, and tied together with 32ga wire. My intent was to make a hanging cage like you see in movies about the Viet Nam War, but I couldn't get the rig to both work and fit on a CD-ROM. The top is removable for ease of putting things in.

Nicely done. It looks really good. Are you going to paint it or leave it as is?

I'm going to leave it as is. After all, it already looks like bamboo, being, well, made from bamboo.

Nice and Cong-y.
Eerie coincidence... I've been brainstorming about how to make segmented bamboo poles for a 28mm scale structure for my Conan game and this triggered the solution. Those skewers could be shivered into halves or quarters, then cut into little segments. Mash the ends of the segments down a little so they splay a bit and glue the smashed ends together. Ochre it up with gloss varnish... just like my old fishing pole.
P.S. Your string work reminds me of a Cutty Sark model I attempted as a kid <shudder>.
