Most recent batch of work. Comments welcome ::):

Agramon, been working on him the longest (and still working on him) and he's driving me crazy. I styled his coloring after a particular type of salamander, a Fire Salamander, but I'm just not happy with him. And I can't really figure out what I'm not happy with. Black is a color I struggle with and I may be in over my head with this one lol

Link to Adara, for the nudity. The base was specified by the customer, like a bit of light was showing through the magic outline. The pentagram shape is actually carved into the base.

True, black is a very difficult one to pull off, mainy because black is as dark as it gets, so it makes shading difficult.

Looking at your piece, I might suggest thinking in the opposite direction. Highlighting. Without the base you used, I would say the highlighting is fairly good. But, since you did choose that base, I would say that the highlighting is very incomplete.
You have all of this molten rock that he is standing on and none of the light from it glowing on him, same for the fire in his hand.

I think the same tutorial that I suggested to the Phoenix painter the other day might do wonders for your piece as well..

I like the pit fiend. The colours comboed with the base make me imagine someone tried to make a summoning circle out of Hazard Striping.

The yellow over black is more of a problem than the black is. May i sugest next time putting down a base of solid orange brown beneath the areas to be painted yellow. Going directly fromblack to yellow can make the yellow look too drybrushed on when the black beneath the yellow bleeds through in the lower areas.

Also, rather than highlight with grey, try using dark purple or dark blue on the black.
